I just joined onto here after seeing the new Chinese camera now
available for sale. It's quite exciting to see something new for MF
stereo.

My only concern is that I think I prefer the ole look down finder
style, like (the crappy one)on my Sputnik.

It's easier to brace the camera for slower exposures.

Plus, that 3D World beastie looks bigger than some people's head, and
would blow any chance of stealing candid shots (ie wedding
receptions).

I mean, you would be mistaken for Darth Vader covering your face with
it and telling everyone to "smile and relax!" :-)

As I recall, Sam has said that Hasselblad finders
will fit with just a little shimming. I don't have
one so I can't actually test it

I prefer the TLR waist-level finders, too. And I quite agree about
the Sputnik, but will love it anyway. (Yes, I'm a bit strange....
I love the vignetting and occasional light light leak that they
produce. But, I'm also not going for the traditional crisp image
when I use it, either.)

Do you ever use that microscopic eyepiece? I've always found that
thing to be more trouble than good, so I just look into the mirror.
Do you have any suggestions on overcoming this?

John-

Just Ha$$elblad finders? :-( Are they a standard w/ plenty of
cheaper compatibles out there? (pardon my ignorance of top-of-the-
line MF)

Tim -

I use the magnifier when I had the time to fool with it. Otherwise,
Scale focusing will do in a pinch (I once made a little ft. scale of
a piece of tape to put around the lens barrel.)

I alway turn BOTH rickety lens at the same time when focusing my
Sputnik or Colorist cameras. I put up with that 'cause I still love
the quality of shots they give- funky, fragile beasts that they are.

But, like you posted before, I believe, a somewhat wider angle lens
would be nice, esp. for more DOF.

I still want a 3D World stereo someday. I just have to figure a way
to cover up that atrocious logo on front, (and remember not to hold
one up to my face and scare little kids and small dogs). :-P

You can easily paint it black. I've actually
done that with my 2D Canon digital. I couldn't
*stand* those bright white letters. I haven't
yet gotten out the filler putty to smooth out
the indented letters.

The 3DWorld logo actually protrudes from the
front of the prism. I suspect that you could
grind it right off with some sandpaper.

KEH sells waistlevel Hassy finders for $50 to $100.

Correct. It's the exact same mount, except Hasselblad uses a thinner
base, hence is a little loose. Perhaps there is a Russian clone, but
for the price of used Hasselblad finders (my 45 was $15.50 on eBay)
why bother ?

I guess if I can just use a substitute waist-level finder, I'd kill
two birds with one stone (90 degree finder w/ goofy logo in front of
it).
