Subject: Image defect analysis - lens flare?

In looking at film from my TL120, I have
two images taken under very similar circumstances
which exhibit a similar defect. I've scanned
and put a sample at:
http://www.alaska.net/~thurston/images/Scan000844.jpg
or
http://tinyurl.com/wwaex

There was a third image taken under the same
circumstances which does not exhibit this defect.

As this appears in both left and right images
and is curved, I'm thinking this is lens flare.

Does anyone care to comment?

Looks like a lens flare to me. Here is my "without a doubt" version of a TL-120 lens flare :

Maybe this isn't a good sign. Poor lens coatings? Bad
bathroom lighting? WIth probably only a few hundred shots
taken by US owners of the TL120, these first reports are not
encouraging. I don't recall ever having a flared shot with my
S1 and I was never really particular about where the sun was.
I did get a pair of collapsable lens hoods which look okay even
though they crush together slightly in the center. Guess I'll
need to leave them on.

Looks like a lens flare but not a typical flare with "specular
highlights" (if that's a correct term). Normal flares are sharper or
defined rather than the soft blur I see in yours. Could they be from
internal reflection?

Harry Calderbank sent me a sample image off-list
(with permission to post) and has this to say:

"Flare is definitely a problem with this
camera. I've had a number of bright day
time shots with just a hint of a crescent
shape of flare showing. Not all the
time though. Can't figure that one out."

Like I said, I have three images taken on
the same overcast day. Two exhibit the
flare marks, the third does not.

Anyone else see this kind of stuff with
their TL120?
