This is the one issue that I think is most applicable to medium format 3D photography.
When I shoot with my VM camera I don't even consider focusing or depth of field issues,
because with the small format and fixed focus lenses all I have to do is make sure my main
subject isn't any closer than 6 feet. I would expand the depth of field topic to include an
awareness of the concept of zone focusing. I got very few useable shots from my
Sputnik for the first year I shot with it. I kept trying to focus on my main subject, and
even when I succeeded in doing this I wasted lots of depth of field. Once I figured out
that I needed to find a focusing point that would maximize my depth of field, keeping my
far point and near points as focused as possible, I started to get more useable shots.

On a related topic, many people new to MF tend to use apertures that work well in smaller
formats. I would encourage anyone starting with MF shooting to stick with f16 or f22, at
least initially.
