Any more comments from those who have used the new Provia 400X? It's
just about due for release here in Australia. I shudder to think of
the price. I currently pay around AU$11-00 (US$8-00) for Provia 100F.
The current price for the old Provia 400 is around AU$17-00. The new
one will have to be good to warrant that sort of price.

I just finished mounting three rolls of it. The subjects were a bit
varied from a group shot of people, to a desert canyon, to snow and ice.
All were shot on a tripod at f22 using the TL120 and viewed with the 3D
World STL viewer pointed at a lightbox.

I must say that overall I am very happy with this film. Yes, there is
noticable grain in vast open skies, but that all but disappears with even
the littlest amount of texture or variation in the image. The colors are
great and quite true to life in full sun. Snow in the shadows is quite
blue/purple, but that is unavoidable with any film.

I also shot some ProviaF 100 in my RBT at the same time and I must say
that the grain is much more noticable in those than the 400X in 120. This
is mostly due to the higher magnification of the viewer, but if that is
what you see, then that is what you see.

I have not shot enough to give an unconditional favorable review of this
film, but it is looking like I might be making this my film of choice for
the majority of my images. I can't wait to get it underground and see
what the extra two stops of light gathering can do for my flash cave
shots!
