Subject: Screw thread adapter for Sputnik

Hi

I transfered the one from my Kiev 88 to the Sputnik as I wanted to use tripod
and my metz 45ct4 with it and found it didn't fit too well.

Or go all the way in to be flat and flush.

I ordered two off of ebay which I'm waiting on but wonder now if I purchased
the right ones.

Anyone put an adapter in and if so - where from and how much?

Cheers

Most decent camera shops will carry the 3/8 to 1/4" adapters usually at a cost that is less than you would pay for shipping. Take you camera with you and try before you buy.

The adapter should fit snugly and flush. Install it on your
camera. If it doesn't fit flush, remove it. Mount a 1/4" bolt
(with a stop nut on it) in a vice. Thread the adapter onto
the top of the bolt and jam it with the stop nut. File it
down a bit (to make it thinner). Reinstall it on the camera.
Repeat until it fits correctly.

If you are using quick-release plates for your tripod,
I strongly suggest just using a 3/8" screw to attach the
plate to the camera and skip the adapter. If you aren't
using quick-release plates, I strongly suggest a drop of
green loctite after you install the adapter. It's strong
enough to make it stay but not so strong you can't remove
it later.

I get mine from B&H as I no longer have a camera store
within 500 miles.

While you are there, pick up a couple of $8 cable releases.
Cheap, cheap, cheap. Put one in each bag you'll carry your
Sputnik in. It's the pits to get everything framed up and
discover the cable release is in your "other" bag :(

you don't say where you are, Mark, so postage from B&H may
be a show-stopper for you.

Hi,

I bought a "no brand" one at a local photo store and it fit flush
perfectly on my Sputnik.
