Hi everyone,
I guess I will have to refrain from buying the Chinese camera for the
time being and settle with my Russian Sputnik. As you all know the
internal flares are quite annoying, and I would like to avoid them by
applying flocked paper to its interior. Yet - I do not know where to
get it.
Does anyone of you in either Europe or the States have a reliable
source for this material? I would very much appreciate your help.

The traditional place is Edmund Scientific (the retail side is now
owned by Scientifics Online). Here is their catalog listing.

Re: [MF3D-group] Flocked paper Andreas,

I think painting the interior with flat black paint will work.

Be sure to cover the lens.

I have used flat black model airplane paint in the small bottles. This is
not as “flat” as one might want so I mix in some cornstarch... Couldn’t say
the optimum amount. I think I used about .25 to .5 teaspoon.

Be sure to shake well before using.

This also works on the “light trap” (ha!) between the back of the camera and
the cover... Maybe not as well as some kind of gasket, though.

Hi Brian,
thanks for the immediate reply. Yet now I have one more silly
question. Or two. The size given on this website, is it in inches or
in centimetres? And would you recommend the adhesive or the
non-adhesive type?
Thanks again,
Andreas

The dimensions are inches. (The double quote (") mark next to the
number is short hand for inches. The single quote (') mark is short
hand for feet.)

For the price difference it might be worth it to get the non-adhesive
paper and a can of 3M spray adhesive. If that's too messy go for the
adhesive version.

I should mention that Edmunds isn't the place to go for a good price.
Their advantage is selection, not price.

Protostar <http://www.fpi-protostar.com/> (who sells to the amateur
telescope making community) also sells flocking paper, but their
prices are about the same, unless you buy a lot. They do specify the
light blocking ability of their flocked paper (Edmunds doesn't) and it
looks good.

Andreas,

The flock paper that Edmund Scientific sells is nice. It's like
construction paper with a few fine felt feel. I had purchased the
non-adhesive sometime back for a project I never got to. I believe
some time ago they sold different varieties of the flock and it was
more money. 9.95 is good and you'll have more then enough for your
project. But watch the shipping cost, this is where they get you.

I have been satisfied with the performance of the ZIG
"2-way" acrylic glue to apply paper my cameras.

I like the pen application and it seems tenacious enough to
do the job.
