Subject: unaligned lenses on Sputnik?

Hi

I've been shooting pretty close with my Sputnik and noticed when mounting
that there's about 2 mill difference between both frames on the vertical axis.

Is this common? Is it fixable or with doing?

Its not noticable on longer shots,

Cheers

Mark,

Are you measuring the actual frames or two points in the images?
There's a big difference here. What were the results of your focus
tests? If one image is actually larger than the other (image and not
frame) then you definately have a problem. Shooting a few test shots
on a hill overlooking a city with the apertures wide open will tell
you if your lenses are focused properly. If you have prominant
subjects to each side of the frame (vertically aligned or horizonally
doesn't make a difference if they are all at a distance), then measure
the distance between the two points on either image and compare. As
little as .5mm at the extreme sides could be noticable, but not fatal.
2mm is a serious problem. Another issue could be whether your film
lies flat, but without your lens test results it's impossible to
narrow down. The "frame" is not a good reference point, especially on
a Spud.

Without knowing this, and what you are actually measuring it is hard
to determine if there is a problem. --- In

Do you mean when focused to the distance it does not occur? If the
problem is with close objects, then also test wide open on a brick
wall a few feet away.
