Hi Harry

How was the actual mechanism of the 3D World displayer?

I know the problem of height all too well. It was something i built into as a
design feature (artistic clash) of my 8 realist slide geometric primitive which
was las on display at the Sci-fi London film festival.

We kept on adjusting the height over the course of the 5 days it was on
display.

Playing with the ideas of doing a MF version but prob not in that shape.

The height mechanism is nothing more than the same thing used in
height adjustable office chairs. Just a basic gas strut. The
problem is that the 3D World thing just sticks all the time, and I
cannot see the viewing public having the patience to try and adjust
it.

The rest of the mechanism for actually rotating the slides seems
fine, although it would be nice to have the LED backlight switch off
momentarily as it rotates. It seems to be a very simple mechanism
with few moving parts. The only real gripe I have with it is the
short axle used on the rotating drum. It unfortunately has just
enough freeplay in it to sag a little, resulting in a slight mis-
alignment between it and the lenses. Nothing major, but enough to
irritate me. Most others (non 3D background) who view it don't
notice the problem.

If they would just place the viewer at a 45 degree as opposed to 90
degree angle - that would solve much of the viewer height problem.
Mutascope and others used this method in early nickelodeon viewers.
All you need to do then is to adjust the viewer to the intended
audience i.e. adults or children and their necks and spines do the
rest. I've looked into other adjustable height apparatuses and
they're 1) prohibitively expensive and 2) not completely brainless to
use - which is what you need with the general public.

Actually a tilting viewer would be the best choice. That way small
people could look up, tall look down, and the average person would be
able to see the view with the naturial perspecive of looking towards
the horizon line. I hope to have a multiple viewer of this design for
the NSA/USI exhibit.
