Whatever your inclination with regard to investment, this TL-120 IMHO is an excellent product. Granted, it is mostly plastic, but it works consistently and reliably for me.  I haven't experienced any of the shutter lock problems that others have.  It is really nice to have pairs of BIG stereo images on one film and have them sharp!  I had a Spud and it was neat, but couldn't compare to the quality of the TL-120 images so far.  I don't use their internal metering system and use a hassy waist level finder.  Any bad images for me were the result of poor composition or an error in exposure.  They also supply a custom mounting rig ( I have my own that I devised, but this one is an OK second) and a fair "steal the light" viewer.  They also supply a pile (10 ) sample MF3d slides that are interesting.  If you don't like them, you can always reuse the mounts for your own images.   A fine camera, a viewer, and a mounting rig is a pretty good value for the $ they want.  And the lenses are glass...I hope that this product is available for a while.

What are the differences between this and the previous versions of the
camera?

That's a good question! Thanks for asking.

I've been holding out, waiting for things to get stable, but buying a
TL-120 is only more and more of a grab-bag purchase as time goes on. There
seems to be an expectation that the market should be content with dropping
$1300 on whatever they feel like shipping. I fully appreciate that this is
a cottage industry item, and I'm very grateful to 3DWorld for all the
progress they've made, not to mention the great pricing, but... 3DWorld
would sell a lot more of them if they would COMMUNICATE the changes they've
made and increment the model numbers, providing good documentation on-line.

The camera is cheap because it's made in China, where labor costs are pennies an hour.
