Subject: Starting 120 roll film in TL-120 cameraDate: 2008-04-04 11:50:27From: David Lee
A while back there was a short discussion concerning getting the roll of film started correctly in the TL-120 camera. It got me thinking about how I have started 120 film in general for the past 25 years. During that time I have probably shot a few hundred rolls of 120 film, all of which I have started by threading the backing paper into the slot, winding the film a couple turns (or to the start arrow), then closing the back. After reading that interchange of ideas, I decided to try threading the backing paper into the slot and rolling a couple of turns before inserting the take-up spool into the camera. This gets the paper started rolling more tightly and accurately. I have now done this with about 10 rolls (on the TL-120) and feel that it is a superior way of loading the film. In the past I have occasionally had slight fogging on the edges of a small percentage of rolls (with the TL-120 and other cameras). I feel that this new method will prevent this occurrence in the future. (Maybe I'm the only one who didn't know this already.)
