Subject: "Dust", on light panels.

Recently I pooh poohed the idea that static dust could
cause viewing problems on viewer light panels, if posit-
ioned too close to the film slides. I won't list any
specific message numbers as they are, apparently, too
confusing.

Bob Venezia showed me his MF viewer, which did have prob-
lems due to dark spots on the light panel screen.

Apparently, these spots could be considered to be, "dust",
and I was, therefore, wrong in dismissing the potential,
"dust" problem.

The MF viewer designed and produced by Sam Smith, avoided this
potential problem by making the light panel to be easily removable, as
the light panel is attached by magnets, allowing the light panels to
be, easily cleaned, in seconds, when necessary.

I am not sure that it would be advisable to design a viewer with a
panel light that is positioned far enough from the film image so as to
avoid problems with dark spots on the light panel, as the light panels
would then, have to be larger.

I have faith that 3D World MF viewer will be well designed, so as to
avoid the potential problem.

Hi Don,

I admire your faith ! I personally have none. If all of these new
features are to be offered at the same price as the previous viewer -
as Dr T. claims - 3D World is bound to have cut corners somewhere -
be it lower quality and plastic lenses or a non-removable light
panel on which dust will accumulate or a cheaper overall
construction...

I hope I am proven wrong... But I would rather be pessimistic now
than deluded later !

My motto remains "I'll believe it when I see it !" and so far, I
ain't seen nothin' yet even though it's been promised on their site
for several months...

Hopefully they are taking the time to work the
bugs out before the product gets into production.
Don't rush them.

You want it: Good, Fast, Cheap. Pick two.

Yes, emphasize "hopefully" ! I visited the 3D World website
yesterday and all trace of the focusing viewer appears to have been
removed (on the english version of the site, anyway) If it is still
there somewhere, it certainly has been put somewhere discreet. The
only simple viewers mentioned are the regular one as well as a new
cheaper folding viewer.

As for "rushing" them, they are the ones that announced the focusing
lighted viewer several months ago, showed CAD drawings of it and
discontinued the regular viewer claiming a new focusing viewer would
replace it within a few weeks.

Now - months later - they have removed announcements of the new
viewer and have resumed production of the regular one. But then, I
was happy with the regular one. So maybe that is good news ?
