Subject: 3D World's new viewer - wider view

I have widened the masks inside my existing 3D World viewers to work with mounts with 60mm wide openings and 2mm wide septums. From the photos it would appear that the mask in the new viewer could be likewise modified. George, John, what do you think?

Additionally, thanks to its interocular adjustment, it might be possible to view even wider slides if the new viewer is set to maximum interocular. Because of the magnification effect, each millimeter the lens axes are offset outward from the eyeball axes plus MAOFD enables the eyes to converge an additional 4mm of film width. Of course, there will corner vignetting and loss of stereo at the edges, along with more obvious edge distortion, but the more immersive view could compensate for those shortcomings. The reason I am interested in this possibility is that I have a number of 6x7 chips I would like to view more of.

I gather you make your own mounts too or do you modify the existing 3D
World mounts ? Can you give more information on them as I also use
the 6x7 format.

I had two boxes of panoramic cardboard mounts which I rarely need,  so I enlarge their openings with an Exacto knife as necessary to fit my compositions.  I have not tried cutting into 3D World's plastic mounts.

Question for Oleg,
In the Medium Format issue of stereoscopy you comment on a desktop viewer that you constructed using the original 3d world steal the light viewer.

Can you comment more on how you constructed this?

I'm also interested in other's comments on how they view their slides and how they've constructed desktop viewers.

I love the steal the light viewer and enjoy using it with a fluorescent light box. The newer viewer with built in LED tends to give a more restricted view in comparison, for my eyes. I would like more information on how to construct a tabletop viewer using the steal the light viewer and a light source, something that would provide a motionless stable viewing platform.

Thanks in advance for your replies,
Nik

Does anyone have info or links about this? What are others on this board using to view their slides?

Thanks,
Nik
