Hey, Gang!

With the new 3DWorld camera and viewers, I've been energized about MF.
(I had shot some Sputnik, but it's a new ballgame now). I found the
the RMM card mounts fit like a glove (ok, slightly narrower width, but
no big deal!) and I like the options of openings. I've read that
people are making a carrier? I don't get it- I am able to see full
image area lit in both lit and non lit viewers with no carrier? The
big question is, is this point moot? Is anyone besides Paul Talbot
making these? I talked to Paul recently, and he just doesn't seem
well, but he didn't go into details. Anyone know more? (I scanned
archives a bit, but didn't find anything very quickly). Thanks for
patience with the "newbie" :)

It is! And, imnsho, it's a great ballgame :)

The apertures on the 80x140 mounts are vertically centered. On
the 80x132 mounts, they are closer to the bottom. When I drop an
80x132 into my 3D World STL viewer, I find the image sits lower
than I would like and it is not in the sweet-spot of the lenses.
For optimum image quality, I like my 80x132 slides elevated
just a bit. When I drop the same image in my 3D World
illuminated viewer, I find the bottom edge is frequently
over-bright because it sits closer to the light source.

If you don't notice these things, there isn't much point in
messing around with the carrier. If you notice these things, the
carrier is trivial to make.

Dalia has some 80x132 cardboard mounts.
http://www.3dstereo.com/

I use both 80x132 and 80x140 mounts. I like the fit of the
80x140 mounts in the 3DWorld viewers, but I know that not
everyone has one so I try to include both types when I submit to
the folio.

I really like the apertures available in the 80x132 format.

I'm sure Paul will share what he's comfortable sharing.

Hi Ron,

I'm surprised that you can see the full view with the cardboard
mounts. Are you using the square aperture mounts or only the landscape
style? I have cardboard square aperture mounts and I lose a little off
the bottom in any of the 3D World viewers.

In the back of the lighted viewer there is a black bar that is
visible, so I can understand the issue there. I guess most of my
images have been dark at the bottom! So, an adapter that sits at the
bottom of the viewer might make sense~

By the way, I don't see any cardboard MF mounts on Dalia's site

I see black cardboard MF mounts (40 x 50) at the link you provided, just below the bikini images. Perhaps you were distracted. 8-)  -Linda

The last lot of cardboard mounts I bought there were all faulty - one
of the vertical edges in one aperture was badly curved. A
replacement was promised but every time I enquired about new stock,
they never had any. I haven't chased this up for a year or more now
(since using the 3D world mounts) so I don't know if they have any
new stock. They don't appear to.

A while back Steven Sawyer was kind enough to send me some of the
aluminium landscape style masks used in Gepe slide mounts and they
are thin enough to slot right into the 3D world mounts (either as a
landscape mask or turned on their side as a portrait mask). They
work a treat provided you are patient enough to line them up
accurately. Sourcing the masks has been a problem though. I believe
Steven approached the manufacturer of the mounts to try and source
the mask on its own but had no luck. I have tried to find a local
manufacturer to make something similar but also had no luck. I still
make occasional enquiries.

Maybe if every one of us were to contact 3D world to reinforce the
demand for such a thing, they might reconsider making some different
mounts? Or maybe even coming up with a mask for their existing
mounts?

I would _love_ to see some insert masks for the 80x140
plastic mounts.

I have for sale 5 boxes of the 40x50 mounts, like these:

Asking $20 per box. 10% discount if you buy 2 or more boxes.

Also, I have two boxes from RMM, about 70 mounts, different sizes, some
protectors, etc, asking $40 for all.

Shipping is extra. You can pay with paypal.

I recently received three boxes of the square MF mounts from 3D Stereo, after a long wait.  They are good quality.  Perhaps the log jam has been broken.

Thanks,
I was looking for white (like the RMM) and thought the black were the
plastic! DUH!

Thanks for the information on the MF mounts Oleg. I'll chase up my
replacements at long last!
