Subject: tape, or ? to mask 3D slides?

Hi

I'm the UK and did a shoot against a white backdrop. Now the shots are fine but the white roll doesn't cover the full frame and I can see stuff off the sides.

I need to find some sort of photo / slide approved tape so I can convert down the 6x6 to 6x4.5 vertically before I get them to the client.

Any pointers to UK shops, online stores or brand names I can find?

Local art supply shop was useless and Calumet in London wasn't too much help either.

Was a common thing to do when we were all film based.

Need to know asap.

Cheers

Re: [MF3D-group] tape, or ? to mask 3D slides? What type of mounts are you using for this?

If you’re mounting into separate MF mounts there is a (or was – I don’t know anything about current status!) GePe 6 x 4.5 mount.

Hi Mark,

I have silver and black mylar tape but I don't use it much for masking. An
alternative is to use a different mount. I couldn't tell from your description
whether you'd want a landscape or portrait mount. 3dstereo.com in US has these
types of mounts listed on their website, but many folks on the lists have
complained about backorders taking months to fill. You could try calling them
to see if they are in stock.

Hi Bob

Thanks for the links. Looks like one plan if they can ship them fast enough. Saying that I'd like to stick with the existing plastic mounts for consistency.

I'm shooting 120 on the TL120 and the resulting prob is vertical, so the horz edges need to be masked down.

Cheers

If it's worth the expense, you could probably use the aluminium masks out of GePe mounts inside the plastic stereo mounts. I'm pretty sure you would get two masks out of each mount...

thanks Bob, will look into it.

also is there any tips to de-dust a room prior to mounting.

Shooting on a white background means any spec is visible.

I remember working for a photographer who had a damp basement lab - place was cold but the moisture kept all dust at bay. I had an idea of running a kettle or some such for awhile before starting.

Cheers

These are the mounts that I'm talking about...

The Aluminium masks will give a really nice clean edge.

I run a room-sized HEPA air filter in my "office" to keep
the dust down. This isn't something I can do "prior to
mounting", it's something I do constantly. If I turn it off
for a couple of days, the amount of dust which settles out
is sufficient to make mounting a very dissatisfying experience.

sounds like a good idea but budget and time precludes that.

any other suggestions anyone?
