Hi

I had my 120mm drum viewer installed in central London for the Sci-fi Film fest from wed night for the duration the event which ended last night.

It had been set to 20p (only coin that seems to work in it) and had one of the crew there keep an eye on it with the orders if it stops working to reset it to 'free' mode.

Went in yesterday morning and lo and behold it was 'off' as the 20p's weren't working.

So just as well I didn't announce it here for people to go visit it.

Hoping to have it installed somewhere in Brighton for the rest of the May festival down here. Obviously it will be set to 'free' from here on in.

I did suss out how to get 20p's work with it consistently and that was to put a bit of a block on the bottom part of the slot so their is more of a drop into the device, that and to put spin on the coin as it goes in.

Anyone else using one of these and how are you finding the coin acceptor and with which currencies? Its getting to the point that I will have to design the entire thing from scratch.

Just curious, what is the 20 pence worth in Canadian/American currency?

http://www.google.com/search?q=.2gbp+in+usd

returns the value 30 cents

Last time I purchased Canadian dollars with US dollars, I
paid about 2% premium.

that was my guess. the exchanges have been yo-yo'ing for awhile.

So besides me, has anyone anywhere been using the drum viewer in coin pay mode? How are you finding it?

Trying to suss out if its a UK coin issue or?

I have one of the 'free' versions of this viewers and in the instruction manual it says that it was designed for the US Quarter (the instructions are for the pay version) and you can set the mechanism to work after a certain amount of coins (1 or 2 or 3 etc)

i don't know what the difference in weight/size between a us quarter and the 20pence... but that might be it; I've seen photos of the paid version working (seemingly ok) in the Middle East (Iran, I think) there's a guy who has a couple of them out there somewhere and I guess it does work with other coins just not that particular one..

but if the paid version is anything like my 'free' one; it's a bit finicky; sometimes works fine, sometimes just doesn't...

that's my 2 pennies

As I said before, at US Quarter is very close to a old British Shilling, which I'm told is equivalent to a 5 Pence piece.

Metallically speaking that is - not in equivalent purchasing power.
