Subject: "Laymen" reaction to MF & 3D World Viewer?

Just on a whim, I've shown some of my admittedly average MF slides to a few friends (and friends of friends). The new focusing and lighting viewer certainly removes some of the old barriers I've felt before in sharing MF.

What I didn't expect was the excited reaction they get. Even from those who've seen my Realist format slides before.

Has anyone else noticed a more palatable excitement your MF slides get, compared to your Realist (or even VM ;-) ) formats?

It's quite interesting, esp. since my Realist slides (by myself and others) are generally better in subject, quality and quantity than my "baby steps" in MF.

I guess Bigger is Still Better! ;-)

Hi

Yes I have that a lot as my 120mm drum viewer has been and still installed locally in Brigton for a few months. The shop/cafe that currently has it is constantly amazed at the reaction.

I just smile and not.

hmmmm...my promotional spidey-sense smells an opportunity there for a hidden-camera, YouTube video ... ;-)
("What the heck are those people seeing in that drum thing...and where can I go to see one too?)

I was thinking of a group experiment: the reaction of those already familiar with Realist slides vs. the innocent "control group" (with, say, only a little VM exposure). The excitement upon seeing MF slides was often greater then first seeing 5p Realist slides (and I always though 5p had plenty of impact to begin with).

It's all starting to sound like some kind of Gateway Drug phenom ;-0

BTW, Woke up this morning with this list in my head:

Anaglyphs = B/W television
ViewMaster = DVD
Realist = multiplex theater
Full Frame = CinemaScope
MF = IMAX (*3D* IMAX) ;-)

actually my realist format stand alone Geometric Primitive actually had that in its original specs:

well summed up.

I find that "laymen" are just as impressed with the colors as they are with the 3D. Very few people today have seen (or remember seeing) Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides and therefore are blown away by the color on E6 film.

I'm starting to come around to that opinion too. This was after I considered going digital / Fuji. Yeah, you have speed, convenience, economy and 3D - but just viewing 3D alone isn't much without the full color, sharpness and contrast.
