Hello

Picked up a one buck magnifying glass at the dollar store in the maritimes and discovered it was actually glass; the coverage was very good and it appears to be actually glass.

Went back to get a 2nd and found a antique stereo card for 3$ and it works really well with those lenses. So will buy as many as I can for DIY projects.

It might even work as lenses for MF slides though I don't have any here - just a dell netbook 10v. Any suggestions on how to test?

Focus through it at a piece of graph paper. While looking,
make some pencil marks on the paper outlining what you
consider to be its usable image area. Take into account
eye-relief, barrel and pin-cushion distortion, and chromatic
aberration. If your marks enclose an area 50mm wide and
high, then your lens has potential.
