Subject: Anyone Have A Sputnik For Sale?

From: Steven Lederman
A friend of mine was just turned on to stereography via the Holga 120-3D camera.  I told him that he would probably enjoy a modified Sputnik or a TL-120 more.
He's not ready at this time to drop a wad of cash on the TL-120, and he had a bad experience with a rip-off artist on eBay when he tried to buy a Sputnik.
Is there anyone here who has a Sputnik (with the necessary modifications done to it) who might want to part with theirs?
I just got a cheap Holga 120-3D off of Craigslist ($35) but I'm not all that impressed with my first efforts with it.
Appreciatively,
Steven

Yep. I have a Sputnik to spare now that I own a Tl120-1, my
TL120-55, and a Rolleidoscop. I'd love to help get another
MF3D on the road.

My Sputnik is an excellent shooter with rare and desirable
add-ons. I'd like $600 + postage. I don't think that's an
unreasonable price for a proven camera, with the extras it
has, from a reputable seller. If you think otherwise, please
let me know and I'll consider offers.

==============================================
Sputnik -- The Spud is clean and ready to shoot. The
interior has been both flocked and baffled.
The doors have been yarned. The edges of the
lens elements have been "blacked". I have
adjusted the focus and damped the focus gear.
It has an oversized Sam Smith "Spud Knob",
a spirit level and a case.

Hoods -- Press-fit lens hoods recently (well, 2007) cast by
Elliott Swanson.

Finder -- Slide-on, bright-line viewfinder built
by Don Lopp. It is not a rangefinder but
it is fantastically fast and easy to use.

Comments on the Sputnik:
I can't promise it is the sharpest Sputnik on earth, but
more than one knowledgeable viewer has let me know they
consider it to be well above average.
Even with the yarn seals on the doors, I have always used
gaffer's tape on the doors latch and along the top edge of
the doors. I don't know if it leaks light without that tape.
I just never felt like taking any chances and taping that
Sputnik latch always felt like a good idea. When the camera
is empty, I "store" my tape on the back door.
There are only two lens caps (I lost the third while
photographing in the middle of a river).
The glass is in great shape.
I use a paper washer under the take-up spool to better
align it with the supply-spool.
I have never timed the shutters but my resulting images
have always matched my expected exposures.
The self-timer is not fully functional. I could have
removed it the last time I had the lenses open but I didn't.
The tripod mount on this Sputnik is 1/4".

I've never seen the Holga slide viewer, but the Holga slide
mounts are absolute rubbish. Correct mounting in them is
_not_ possible and you should make an effort to keep them
away from your friend.
