I'm sure that those of us unable to attend would very much like to hear about Larry Heyda's new viewer. Plus of course any news about MF film cameras that are in the works!

cheers,

Hi Bob,

I was working day and night for two weeks straight, trying to finish up the fully adjustable MF viewer in time for the show. Didn't complete it before we had to drive to the airport, so I was sitting at my table at the convention with a partially done viewer to show. Very embarrassing! However, it was good to get feedback from folks about it, and convention goers also had a chance to check out the "steal the light" viewer on my table that was finished.

I will now be able to get everything wrapped up in the next week with a little more information about what is wanted by the MF community. I'm so glad I went. I met a lot of old friends, and was inspired by seeing Cyclopital's array of products.

Missed seeing you there, but I did see that excellent stereo pair of yours that was printed in the show brochure.

Kind regards,

Larry

Good to hear the start of these reports.   I am so sorry that I was not able to make it this year myself;  I enjoyed it so much last year.

This discussion between Larry and Bob is a really good example of the wonderful camaraderie that exists not only at the conventions, but also between those who were able to attend and those whom, unfortunately, were not.

It is also good to hear of the wonderful things happening in MF3D.   New viewers are certainly a good sign.    Even long after 120 film is no longer available, we can still enjoy what has already been shot with these viewers, for a long time to come.

Here's a report about the MF3D SIG.

James Mutch (`J') and I set up prior to the meeting. J brought a large collection of medium format cameras and viewers (e.g. heidoscop, rolleidoscop, TL120). I brought my TL120-55.

The MF3D SIG officially started Friday at 11 a.m. but it was already rolling by then. There was a core group of about 11 people, please excuse me if I forgot anyone or get a name wrong. Linda Nygren, J, Aaron and Angie, Jim from Linda's club, Josh from our Canadian club (NSA Ontario), Chuck Holzner, John Hart (Colorado), another Jim (can't recall his last name), myself and a fellow who moved from Canada to Michigan. We had some people drop in throughout the meeting, maybe about 4 or 5

I had planned to give a little talk but decided not to, the meeting had a life of its own and was doing just fine. Everyone was involved and participating – we had image sharing for Linda's, Matt's, J's, Chuck's, Aaron and Angie's and Jim's images. There was lots of discussion around J's MF3D cameras and viewers and my TL120-55. Jim showed his beautiful homemade aluminum and wood 120 MF camera that uses (I think) enlarger lenses and a rubber band powered shutter! He also showed his MF viewer with binocular lenses. The system delivers very bright and very sharp images.

Aaron and Angie brought slides made from their digital files by a company called BOWHAUS. I thought the images were very good and tried to persuade them to send some with our folio, but was unsuccessful. Their images were stored 2 at a time in very nice clear sleeves that are like check book holders, I did not ask where they got them from, but should have!

This could have gone on for another hour easily, but we had to clear the room as the lenticular group was scheduled at 1 p.m and we had a lot of cameras etc to pack. At the end of the meeting I mentioned this Yahoo MF3D list in case anyone wanted to join and continue the discussions
