After losing my Hiking Dog Buster a year ago I haven't visited the Rockies much at all. After cleaning out some stuff on my shelves I found a roll of 120 agfa film that had been exposed but never developed. I think it was originally an expired roll I bought for a couple of bucks locally when film was plentiful, and my original intention was to use my old black and white reversal process I came up with a few years back and make it into black and white slides. Unfortunately I was no longer able to buy the reversal bleach needed, so I just tossed it on a corner. I had no idea what (if anything ) was on it.

Anyway, I took my first roll of MF3D for close to 5 years on a recent trip to Fernie BC, just to see if my camera still worked. After a lot of inquiries I learned that London Drugs in Calgary still sends E-6 film off to Vancouver for processing. I dropped off the new film with the recently discovered old film, and was amazed when the film returned in only 3 days. But I was more amazed at what was on the roll: Pictures of my old dog Buster sitting at the top of Mount Yamnuska!

The good new that there are color stereo pairs that I know have that never knew existed. Probably taken 10 year ago. The bad part is that they was a major color shift and washed out from not being developed for so long.

But there is better news. Through the miracles of Photoshop I was able to scan the images and restore some of the glory of what the shot could have been if I used fresh film and processed it promptly. I have posted the results in the PHOTOS section of this newsgroup:
http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MF3D-group/photos/albums/793076438

Now here's a question: How do it get the digital files back to MF3D? I see slides.com offers a service. Has anyone used this company lately. How was the quality?

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

I have made MF pairs from digital files using  slides.com (fair to poor) and gammatech.com (decent, better than slides.com).  However, the best I have seen (from my limited sampling) was from

http://www.bowhaus.com/services/lvtspecs.php4

using an LVT (vs. CRT type) device.  Not quite like original MF film but really good.  To get price/pr down you have to lay out 3 or 4 pairs on an 8x10 (7.5" x 9.25") format and cut them up and mount them after.

Note:  You never get the advertised resolution on film because of optics, pointing errors, blooming of the spot, etc., etc.

Thanks John! If I read their site information correctly, it is $125 per 8x10 sheet plus shipping. Being in Canada, I expect that would be maybe $35 US a pair. Is there enough room to get 4 pair on an 8x10 sheet? We they lay 3 pair horizontally and one pair vertically? I seems they will do the second dupe set for 50% less.

Thanks again,

Sam

I've used Gammatech in New Mexico.
With very careful "mounting", I can get both halves of my image onto one
6x12 image. This they will 'print' for one small fee.

The results are mixed. Some have been good enough to include in folios.
Others have shown visible banding. Still, for the price, it is worth the
experiment.

Hi John, I know there's a message here but I can't view it. This new Yahoo look really sucks, and I can't get these dumb adds from taking over the screen. Off-topic, but how can we make the messages go back to the way we viewed them a few months ago?

I'll kick you a copy off-list

Hi, Sam. The new "Neo" format that Yahoo rolled out starting in August has been a bit of fiasco, but it is working much better that it was initially. Once you figure out what features are gone, and where the remaining ones are hidden, that is. Often you have to "hover" the mouse to even find icons. Or they are buried in various menus which may change from day to day. But there is no way now to get back to the "Classic" groups view once you have been converted over. (For a while there was a Firefox Plugin that allowed one to see Classic groups, but that option is gone now.)

But anyway, the apparent bug causing messages on-line to sometimes appear empty can be worked around by clicking on "reply" (even if you do not intend to actually send a reply.) Then click on the three dots ... which makes the quoted material appear. This part of the method is also important when you are actually composing replies (either in email or on-line.) If you ignore the three dots and just send your message, the previous material gets included untrimmed.

Hope this helps. -Linda N

This is a no-pressure message, Sam. I've had couple of
Canadians drop from the folio this year so I'm seeking
another participant from "East of the border".
A) Do you know of any shooters who'd like to participate?
B) I may need to extend the folio cycle just a bit (to get
them out of phase again). If so, would you like a
guest-viewing opportunity?

Sam,

Since the active image area is 7.5 x 9.25" you should be able to get 4 pairs of ~2.4" square with ~.15" spacing, organizing as you suggest.  Probably, you (not 'they') need to lay it out in one big file, and summon up good cutting skills when you get it back :-).

Subject: Clearing out some NEW matched MF Digitar lenses.

In case anyone is interested,  as I am listing these on ebay....a rare chance to get Schneider factory fl matched pairs of Digitar lenses.   Each time the factory in Germany ran a given fl..... during the laser analysis of the finished lenses, they logged the fl's and serial numbers.... at the end of a run, when they had a matched fl pair, (within .1% fl)  they would ship them to me.  I paid a hefty premium for this service, but am selling the lenses at market value.    It would take approx. 300 lens run,  to get one matched pair.    These are the remaining matched pairs I never installed on the MF cameras was building and selling.  I might have one extra MF stereo / Panoramic cameras that use these Digitars coming up for sale soon...

Here are the matched pairs, all in Copal shutters, Unopened boxes

35mm Digitar   $5000 / pr
80mm Digitar   $2000 / pr
120mm Digitar $2100 / pr

If anyone is interested, email me off list...

In response to Sam's 5 year hiatus from MF3d:

My hiatus didn't last 5 years, more like 2 years.  But now I'm back, and I've been back for a couple of years after trips to Yellowstone, Banff, Colorado, and Sedona.  There still isn't anything like MF3D.

I've run out of E6 chemistry (I've been using a Jobo processor) and I'm wondering about developing film now. Any options for E6 chemistry?  I used Kodak's single use E6 chemistry but that's been unavailable for a few years now.

Can the chemistry be purchased individually?  Advice would be appreciated.
