I have taken several 4X5 cameras and modified them to take side-by-side
stereo pairs on one sheet of 4X5 film. To get a stereo pair you have to
cut them and reverse positions. They are great for free viewing. My best
results so far is with a TOYO 5X7 camera with a 4X5 back and a pair of
Nikkor SW 75 lenses with a dual cable release. Does anyone else do such
a thing?

Hi Don, I tried 4x5 years ago for 3d, as I was an avid LF shooter..... but its a waste of sheet film....roll film is so much easier to load, process, scan, etc.
So I designed and built these cameras, ... the Copal 0 shutters of the Digitars enable a 72mm center lens spacing....

You might want to take a look at the 6x17 Chinese back that's being sold on eBay.  It has two pressure plates, so it would be perfect for 4x5 stereo.  BTW, I have no affiliation with any of the sellers of these contraptions.  I was thinking of mating one to a Sputnik, but as John Thurston pointed out, that would involve some irreversible modification of the Sputnik.

One of the delightful advantages of several 2D MF and LF cameras was that of interchangeable backs.  Even an early model of the stereo 35mm Verascope had them for interchangeable film and glass plates.  But, for MF, was there any production stereo MF film camera that did?    Am thinking that the concept of using an interchangeable back for attaching a digital sensor would be great.   So far, large area sensors have been extremely expensive.  Even used, a digital Hasselblad back is stratospherically priced.   About ten years ago, there were several articles that forecast that the next generation of digital sensors would include very low cost sensors 50mm square and larger (MF).   I am still waiting.
