The last 2 large film processors in Toronto have or will stop processing E6 film by June 25th, Imageworks and Northern Artists. This leaves the small lab of David Nardi  http://www.e6it.ca/

He processes E6 once a month on a mail order basis for only 5$ a roll  (low overhead). I will try this route next as soon as I can meet his 4 roll minimum.

If anybody can suggest another processor in Canada, I would like to know who is good.

I've heard great things about Borealis in Montreal. As a matter of fact, I mentioned that to Robert at TIW and it showed up in the newsletter they sent out to their E6 clients!

I recently looked back on my Ektachrome slides from the 1970's -- those which I processed myself, and those which were processed by commercial labs.  There really is no comparison. The ones I processed were not of archival quality, to say the least.  I don't know if the deterioration is attributable to the chemicals, to my processing, or both.

That was 40 years ago (it's unbelievable how time flies).   That was then, this is now. I am aware that E6 chemicals exist, but I know nothing about their quality. Does anyone currently process their own slides?  Or know of anyone who does?

Interesting. I only processed a roll or two back in the 90s and immediately
concluded that it was not worth the trouble, considering how inexpensive and
readily available commercial processing was back then. The color balance in
the rolls I processed was a bit off. I had a friend who did his own
processing and all his slides had a slight green tint.

I also did some home E6 slide processing (35mm) with a kit back in the 70s. I am not absolutely certain which of my old slides were home vs commercially processed, but I too notice variation in degree of deterioration that I think may be at least partly attributable to how they were processed. I did not find it a lot of trouble to do at that time, and it was fun to be able to do what felt like "real photography" without a "real darkroom". You only needed darkness to put the film into the developing tank. And the results looked fine to me in the short run. And I believe it was quicker than waiting for a commercial lab at that time. -Linda

Oddly enough, I think the processing is still quite cheap, considering how few places still do it. $5 a roll is almost unbelievable to me, and the quality of results is brilliant. I pray there will always be somebody doing this for me, but if I must, I will try it on my own. I enjoy processing B&W film and stereo prints on my own. How hard can E6 be?

Looks like Presto has stopped processing and so has David Nardi (too much demand for a 1 man operation). That leaves Borealis in Montreal http://www2.borealislab.qc.ca . I have some rolls ready to go (I was saving them up for David Nardi's 4 roll Minimum).
I guess after they stop processing E6, I will have to return to Dwayne's in Kansas. It's de'ja vu all over again.

Sorry. All I did was check their web site, where they didn't list processing, and made wrong assumptions.

Don't forget dr5 in Colorado. His E6 processing is excellent and competitively priced. I sent him 3 E6 rolls with my last black and white transparency order.

I started noticing some weird stuff on my E6 chromes from my local lab.  For instance some of my blacks looked like a deep solarized orange.  I researched it and found out that that's caused by not refreshing the chemicals often enough.  So I've switched to Edgar Praus.  He's a little more expensive but everything's been perfect so far.  A super-fast return as well.

I don't suppose you will let us know what lab caused that flaw? Not Borealis in Montreal I hope.

It was a pro-lab in NYC that doesn't mail out orders so I doubt anyone else here was/is using them.  I think they were just doing E6 as a courtesy.  Most of their business was C41.
