A little more information might let us provide more
meaningful responses. I'll make some guesses...

Location : Based on your email, I'm guessing somewhere in
the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Quantity : I'm going to guess one pair.

Quality : "Should match the steal the light viewer from
china" Ok. We've got that one.

Size : Are you looking for lenses the same diameter as those
from the 3D World viewer? Maybe the same focal length as
that viewer? Maybe both? Maybe neither?

Budget : How much are you willing to spend? How long is a
piece of string?

For a single pair of lenses, I suggest looking at Anchor
Optics, Edmunds Scientific, or Surplus Shed.

You could also try contacting Larry Heyda (often present on
this list). He had a batch of lenses made specifically for
his Heydascope viewer. He may be willing to part with a
pair. He may also be able to put you in contact with the
optical house he used which may be able to make lenses to
your specification.

If you are looking specifically for lenses exactly matching
those in the 3D World viewer, you may need to find one of
the viewers and take them out. I know that several years ago
either Sam Smith or George Themelis had a handful of loose
lenses for the viewers. As I recall, there was a "last call"
and they are now gone.

I am pretty sure I have at least one extra pair on my shelf.
I am not yet so hungry that I'm ready to part with them.

More than a couple of years ago, Sam Smith built some lovely
viewers. A few years ago we briefly discussed my buying his
remaining lens stock. We never completed the transaction and
I don't even know how many lenses he has left. He may still
have them. He may be willing to sell them. He will likely
want to sell them all in one lot rather than by the pair.

I have a pair that are loose. Not mounted in anything as yet.

From your reply it appears its not a common question and there's a one stop shop for them.

Edmund Optics has 36mm D x 100mm FL commercial grade achromats in their clearance sale, stock no #40-614. These are listed at 7.59 euros each here in Europe, but they also have a 50% off offer in their Spring sale (use promo code SPRING15 at checkout - starts May 1 and runs to May 15), so that's effectively the price for a pair. Doesn't say whether they're coated or not, but even uncoated that's a very good price.

Hi Bill,

I doubt that 100mm fl lenses would be considered to be a satisfactory fl for viewing MF slides. I would consider anything from 65mm to 84mm fl as being the optimum FL.

Cheers,

DON

I have a few extra sets of the very fine lenses I use in my MF viewers. They are terrific. Don Lopp and John Thurston and others have commented on how well they perform. They are 75mm FL precision achromats, 50 mm in diameter and about 50mm deep. The immersion they give you is amazing.

I am willing to part with a set for $120 plus shipping. Once you have these, you'll never look anywhere else.

Kind regards,

Larry Heyda

I agree with Larry, you will not find any better MF viewer lenses at any price.

Cheers,

DON
