Subject: Sleeve sizing - your chance to weigh inDate: 2016-08-18 13:39:33From: John Thurston
I've done two runs of high quality, 3mil, protective sleeves
for our slides (2010 and 2012). In both cases, the sleeve
sizes matched those produced earlier (2007) by Sam Smith.
They are a perfect fit for 80x132mm cardboard mounts, and an
good fit for 80x140mm plastic mounts. I had them made, and
offered them to list members at a cost-recovery price.
I've had three requests this year for sleeves, and Ian has
been hard at work producing mounts. I think it's time I get
another crate of sleeves produced. Before I commit to the
production (and front the costs), I need to decide on the
specifications.
I have no reason to doubt the continued use of high-grade,
3mil plastic. I won't consider producing anything with glued
seams. That just leaves the question of size.
A few years ago, I had a couple of requests for larger
sleeves to better fit 80x140mm mounts. I declined to produce
them for reasons of production costs and inventory
management. The landscape has changed since then. New 80x140
mounts are no longer being made, and Ian's cardboard mounts
are 80x132.
Can anyone make a case for changing the size of the sleeves
from the dimensions previously used?
