"There's an easy mod to stop the apertures down to f-32, which further increases the sharpness and depth of field.  I shoot mine at f32 whenever possible.  Once you get the Sputnik of your dreams and you find it works well, let us know.  I'll post pictures of how the aperture modification is done."

Says Boris.

Boris, I'd appreciate seeing your "Mod" !

Thanks,

John and others:

The f32 mod is related to the swing bar that John Thurston mentions, which syncs the apertures.  At f22, the swing bar is stopped by the bottom of the right (starboard) lens barrel.  On my spud, the top of the swing bar has been filed/cut/ground away a little bit, where it touches the lens barrel, allowing it all to turn just a little further, this closing the aperture a little more.

I did not do the work on mine, but I can see how it was done.  The swing bar can be separated, and then the part of the bar that needs grinding can swing down away from the lenses, and be accessible to whatever tool you might use.  Not much of my swing bar was cut away... less than a mm.

I'll do a patreon post sometime soon with pictures.  I thought this was a common modification...  Anybody else here done this?

cheers,

Boris

I was just searching and found this link which discusses most of these mods, and towards the bottom it talks about the f32 mod. .

I had no problem with any of the mods except for darkening the edges of the lens, and can testify that you need good sharp screwdrivers of the perfect size or you will booger up the screws. I ended up drilling a couple out and tapping them for a different screw. Frozen butter metal is right.
